That just shows what a good lookin’ puggle he is, right? If you read his blog at all, you’ll already know how smart he is. I really enjoy watching some of his funny tricks!
Guess what? Tomorrow is my birthday! I’ll be one year old tomorrow (that’s seven in dog years, you know.)
I guess that means that I’m as big as I’m going to get. From what I’ve seen at the puggle meet-ups, I’m pretty darned big for a puggle. 100% grade-A beefcake.
Speaking of beef, I’m dreaming of my own ribeye for my birthday. Now THAT would be a great present, as long as Dad leaves the spicy stuff off. Sometimes Dad will give me a bone from one of his ribeyes and Mom has to wash it off before she gives it to me.
That man sure likes his spices. Mom says that’s why he picked her. ::snicker:: Those two are weird.
Did you know that dogs smell when they get wet? I don’t believe it either, but that’s what Mom and Dad say. I guess they must smell when they get wet too because they don’t like taking me for walks when it’s raining hard outside. Add wind to that mix and I can just forget about seeing my friends in the ‘hood.
That leaves me with a lot of energy and no place to go, since I’m still just a puppy, and I guess that makes me a little bit annoying. Mom told Dad that she saw the dog whisperer sometimes uses treadmills to help dogs get in their exercise, so they decided to get me one.
I don’t get to go upstairs very often, because Mom and Dad don’t trust me to be anywhere alone that has carpet. Don’t ask me why- I’m a good boy and only go potty where I’m supposed to. Since upstairs is something special, I was really excited and happy when Mom let me go upstairs. That is, until I saw the treadmill for the first time. It wasn’t too bad until she turned it on. And then she turned it off and wanted me to get on it. I thought she’d lost her ever-lovin’ mind.
She helped me get on the treadmill and then she turned it on. I dug my nails into the floor of that treadmill and tried to get it to stop moving, but it was stronger than me. Mom kept trying to get me to stand and Dad was cheering me on from the front. It took less than a minute before I figured out that walking on that dumb thing was what they wanted me to do. You should have heard them clapping and talking like a couple of excitable monkeys. All I was doing was walking, for Pete’s sake. I do that every day. Gheesh.
We did that for about five minutes and I got up to 2.6 miles per hour on my first day. Here’s a video of me on day 2:
As you can tell, Mom was still excited about the whole thing. Isn’t she annoying when she talks like that?
Now I run like a champ and I’m up to almost 5 miles per hour! Mom read that I shouldn’t run for more than 20 minutes until I’m at least two years old, because my joints are still growing and forming. That’s OK by me because after about 10 minutes I start to slow down and I’m ready to nap.
If you’re still in the mood to see videos of my handsome self, here are a couple for you:
This is me waiting patiently (ha ha) for Dad to get his shoes on so we can go for walkees:
And here I am trying to figure out how to get the ball that’s stuck between the garbage can and the wall. Mom thought I was silly because I had two of the exact same balls close by and a bunch of other toys. But have you ever wanted THAT ball and didn’t care if there were 5,000 more like it right next to you? See? I’m not crazy then.
And here we are, Dad and me doing what we do best. Tickling!
Lastly, here’s a picture of me and my new blankee (and my chewey!) It’s the bomb-diggity:
Dad’s been complaining about my blankie, saying that it’s getting a little raggedy and stinky. Mom washes it every week, but I can see how food and stuff might get in it since it’s always in my mouth. Since I drag it around everywhere and like to keep it in my mouth, it started getting torn. It doesn’t help that Mom washes it weekly. Personally, I liked my blankie just the way it was. There’s a “sweet spot” that’s the best part of my blankie and whenever Mom washes it, it makes it hard to find. Sometimes I just give up and make a new sweet spot.
Mom bought me a new blankie this week and it’s even BETTER than my old blankie. The fur on the inside of the blankie feels so good against my face when I sleep on it and it’s bigger than my old blankie. It took a while to get used to jumping on my chair with the bigger blankie, but I’ve been practicing a lot. Now I can jump on the couch AND the chair and pull the whole thing up with me.
I think I’m going to grow some more. I’m starving all the time and Mom’s been filling my dish three times a day instead of two. I clean my plate (and then some!) Mom tells me that if I get any bigger, she’s not going to be able to lift me in and out of my car seat. Mom thinks that I can’t get in and out of the car by myself, but really I can. I just like it when she picks me up like a baby. It makes her look silly.
We heard that the weather is going to be bad for the next little while, so Mom took me to the dog park today. We usually don’t go on weekends because that’s usually when the naughty dogs with no manners show up. Normally I wait for a while before I start to play because I like to see who the bullies are. Today, I threw caution into the wind and started chasing another dog as soon as Mom took off my leash. Not too long after I got to the park, I met a new friend named Jack. He is only four months old and he’s a beagle. I could see that look in Mom’s eyes- you know, the one which makes me worry that she’s going to dognap a puppy and take it home with us.
I played really hard and fast for almost two hours. I was so happy when Mom asked me if I wanted to go home. She barely got the words out of her mouth before I jetted off toward the fence. I was so pooped out, that I took a five hour nap on my new blankie almost as soon as we got home.
Mom and Dad took me to a puggle meetup last weekend and boy did I have fun! Mom told me that she was worried that she wouldn’t be able to tell me apart from the other puggles. Boy was she wrong! All she had to do was look for the most handsome puggle there, right?
Right!
Little did I know that I’d meet the cutest puggle ever that day. Her name is Ruby and we played together like we’ve been friends forever. She looked almost exactly like me, only she is a girl!
I hope I get to see Ruby again, but she lives kind of far away from us so I think it’ll only be if we go to more puggle meetups.
The next event is a Halloween dress up event. Dad told Mom that she’s not allowed to dress me up in costume. I was really hoping to be a vampire, because I hear that all the girls think vampires are sexy. I didn’t used to think about these things until I met Ruby. ::sigh::
You can see more pictures and even some video of my day on my Flickr page.
I made some new friends today at the dog park. Let’s see, there was:
Checkers: 4 month pit bull (mom said she was going to steal her because she was so cute)
Midge- 9 month corgi (mom says Midge is bossy)
Charlie- 5 month poodle mix (he was kind of a baby and cried at EVERYTHING! I need to teach him my “roll on the back and play dead” trick. Works every time.)
Odie- Not sure and not sure. I had the most fun with Odie because she liked chasing me. I had to hide my tail though because she kept trying to pull it.
Then there was this other dude here that was really RUDE. He was a boxer that liked picking on poor Charlie. I was smart and stayed out of his way.
Later on, my usual pals Nick and Cody dropped in. We don’t really play with each other… I just happen to like their dads. They’re two of the select few that I allow to pet me. It’s become a status symbol at the dog park and people brag when I let them into my ‘inner circle of trust’. Mom calls me aloof, but apparently she hasn’t learned the fine art of being adored.
Here’s the secret- you must make people want to pet you by being cute. Then, just as soon as they go down to pat your head, run off. It’s the best game ever because the new people don’t give up. The ‘inner circle of trust’ people just nod at the new people and then call me over to pet me saying that one day the new people will get their turn.
I hope we have more nice days like this because I sure have fun meeting new pals, even if it does take me a while to warm up to them.
